Tuchel Wants Jude Bellingham's Passion So Long As England's Ace Leaves Egotism at the Door.

One snub proved sufficient. Another and it could have seemed spiteful from the England manager, who is extremely shrewd not to know that winning the World Cup is probably going to require contributions by the talented midfielder, although it is equally Bellingham's responsibility to adapt to the strategic frameworks and player rankings necessary with England now that he is back in the manager's welcoming fold.

Tuchel seeks his aggressive mentality, his fire, but it is a matter of channeling it in the right way. Skill is important but England understand from past setbacks that there is consequences when fame dominates. Nevertheless, a message has been sent.

The midfielder had much to ponder after not being selected of the recent team selection. He observed the national side qualify at the upcoming World Cup without him. He saw Morgan Rogers shine as a high-pressing No 10. He heard Tuchel mention valuing the squad's spirit and values. Inevitably, Bellingham has reacted in top form, netting important strikes for his club against Barcelona and the Italian side. He had to be picked; leaving him out again would have put his tournament chances precarious.

The expectation is that Tuchel will have a midfielder focused on frightening rivals instead of his own colleagues. After all, in purely sporting terms, there is no advantage to creating tension with one of the best players in the world. The ideal scenario is that his period not playing has made him realize that playing for one's country is a precious, uncertain thing. The coach, on his side, can now offer support around the youngster after demonstrating that he is not afraid to drop big names.

“There is no problem regarding him, there is no problem with the character,” Tuchel said. “Jude possesses that aggression. It takes a sharp mentality to achieve greatness that he reached. We all must support him and create a setting which he can [have] that intensity against rivals and in pursuit of success we are working towards as a team.”

Bellingham took up most of the attention at the manager's selection reveal for the upcoming meaningless matches against one opponent and Albania. Who else? Indeed, how about another talent? This is another prodigious No 10 requiring support and direction. Foden has been absent for the national team since spring and has found it hard to hit the heights recently but the boss was impressed by the player after his performance in his club's victory against the German side this week.

The question, however, is how to use the attacking talents at England’s disposal. Rogers and Eze have earned their places and there will be a strong case to select another youngster once he overcomes a ongoing injury. Would taking several attacking midfielders to the World Cup be excessive? Gareth Southgate never found the correct balance at the European Championship. He made concessions by squeezing Foden and Bellingham into the starting lineup, cramping Harry Kane’s influence in the process.

It is hard to see Tuchel doing similar if it disrupts the offensive structure. There is room for one No 10, with quick attackers on the flanks. Clarity helps. Bellingham is in as a No 10. Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, called up for the first time, is a No 8 and the recalled Wharton will compete with Elliot Anderson as a defensive midfielder. Additionally, there is no wide role for Foden, who has to be central. The coach prefers him near the striker. “It does not make sense to ask Foden: ‘We want you on the pitch but no spot exists in your preferred role, can you play the left side? Or the right wing?” he stated. “He is to feature in the central attacking zone, through the center. I have this idea about him for years. In my view it fits his style the most.”

Tuchel conceded there are times when the player has seemed out of sorts in an national jersey. “You feel almost like, ‘Does he really enjoy it? And someone of his caliber who has such natural delight for the game, then clearly something is not right, be it the position, the setup, I don’t know.

“I think he is also so used to playing for his club in a certain structure, to have a defined role. I think he benefits a lot from clarity. Where do you want me to be? In which positions should I turn? When should I to accelerate the match? What are my to defensive duties?”

The manager talked about one star bursting through for tap-ins and the other drilling in goals from 18 yards. He said he has a extended list of 60 players. Morgan Gibbs-White, others, the goalkeeper and the midfielder have been omitted. Nico O’Reilly is rewarded for his good displays for Manchester City at left-back. Intrigue is high.

The omission of the striker means there is no direct replacement for Kane in the selection. Interestingly, he hinted at deploying Foden as a false 9 versus Serbia or the other. Anthony Gordon, Marcus Rashford, the midfielder and the winger are other options if Kane be unavailable. With qualification secured, this is a moment for trying new things.

At the same time, it is additionally a chance to get Kane’s relationship with Bellingham flowing. It's surprising that you have to go back to the latter setting up the captain to net in an international match versus Scotland in over a year ago to find the one and only time in many appearances for the national team when the pair combined for a goal. Tuchel will be aware that Kane and Bellingham only passed to each other a single time during England’s draws with Denmark and another at the Euros. The connection is lacking.

“At this point at some point it falls to the duty of the individuals,” Tuchel stated. He does not shy away to be blunt. Remains a feeling of the player under scrutiny. He may not be guaranteed to start versus Serbia and Albania. Tuchel desires him onside but he will be monitoring him closely. Leave self-importance at the door. It will make a powerful squad into an even better one.
