Eulogies Continue for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of celebrated film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the couple.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt able to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Sufficient time has gone by that I can finally articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced sharing more moments together I realized this was someone I longed to have in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the movie, remarking that he doesn't recollect "a single day without joy".
"This story is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Values that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the perfect person to helm it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He finished with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Indeed, death cannot stop true love but living is anguish without you."
Martin Scorsese Remembers a Colleague and Comrade
In a different tribute, legendary director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes sharply witty, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese highlighted Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the protagonist.
"He was skilled at improv with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Judicial Actions: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to prevent the publication of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the local authorities.
A legal directive put a restriction on the files to limit the public release of "any investigative information, documents, files or images" pertaining to the ongoing investigation.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the result of homicide, with a public database citing the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Fallout and Commentary
In the wake of the tragedy, public figures shared divergent reactions.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, providing provocative claims that were met with immediate backlash by several individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his perspective to the critics last week. Talking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the statements as "disturbing" and suggested they demonstrated a troubling lack of empathy.
Rogan concluded by suggesting that an aide should have intervened when the decision to comment on the tragedy was made.
